Classes- everyone works, every time!

Advanced Cold Reading (Audition Technique)
Wednesday 7pm-10pm

The concept behind Cold Reading is to test your ability to make quick, educated decisions with only a few pages of material. Each class you will be given 1-2 pages of sides and have 20-30 minutes to prepare your audition.
We introduce basic script analysis so you understand what elements of the story you are responsible for in your audition. Are you a Lead, a Guest Star, a Co-Star? Are you delivering exposition or emotional content? Should you make "creative choices?" or play it close to the bone?
The next element is to understand the type (or vibe) of the show for which you are auditioning. This is essential, because it matters whether you are going to play a doctor on ER (a drama) vs. a doctor on Scrubs (a comedy).
The final, most critical element is to find yourself within the role. We want to see your version of this character who is in this particular situation... not a stereotypical imitation of this character.

Ongoing Scene Study
Starts in March, 2017

$225/ month

In Scene Study we build on the elements that are introduced in Cold Read. The main difference is now you are provided with the entire script- not just a few pages of sides.
Each week we will decide on sides/script based on your interest, type and your where you are employable in the marketplace. I will then guide you step by step through the preparation process of script analysis and how to approach building a character. The scenes will be professionally shot using high quality HD cameras/lighting etc. and supplied to each actor for review.
This will test your ability to bring forth a complex interpretation of a character within a given set of circumstances. Your sides/script will be emailed to you a 4-5 days in advance for you to prepare.
You will also be given guidance of how to find the "story" and deliver those unwritten, unplanned choices that create compelling characters- not just the obvious details on the page.

This Scene Study is unique in this industry because I  work with each student, individually, to help them find their process. I do not teach a standardized "method" of acting. I will then follow up with email assessments to help inspire/ encourage growth towards the next weeks performances. The goal is to create working actors, not lifetime acting class actors.

Master Class (Set Day)
Starts in March, 2017
(reviewing applicants now)

Our studio is actively engaged in 12 new SAG Productions for 2017.  We will use the resources we already have here at the studio to offer advanced actors a real life simulation of the film industry!

We will indoctrinate the actors into the process of what it takes to be a working actor, taking them from the audition, to the callback, to the rehearsal, and finally to the shoot! (In only 4 weeks)

The beginning of the session, actors will be given material from a specified genre (courtroom dramas, detective/crime, medical dramas, sci-fy, horror, action, etc.) and then be charged with  preparing for the audition. Our staff will give them feedback and adjustments based on their performance.

The following week, they will take those adjustments and apply them to the "callback" session. Actors again will be given feedback and adjustments based on their character development and story lines.

The third week we will place actors in a cast and do a blocking rehearsal with the writer and director on set.

The final week the actors will be filmed on a live working set. A
ctors will be responsible for knowing their lines, hitting marks and using the given props for the scene. Actors will be need to be ready and fluid in taking direction and making adjustments on the fly.

Steve will oversee all phases of development and will have final say on the candidate selections for this class. Because this will
involve all phases of a normal production, actors will need to prove a level of competency and skill in order to be admitted.  All class members will receive the footage from the shoot.
